How to Get WIFI

You can spend hours researching pocket-WIFIs and SIM card options, so let’s keep it simple:

• If your accommodations in Japan includes WIFI, you should probably buy a new phone in Japan, and then get a Japanese phone / data plan. NOTE: Only a Japanese phone (or an “unlocked” phone) will work with Japanese cell service providers.

• If you want to rent your own apartment, you will need a pocket WIFI. In this scenario your laptop and original phone will use the pocket-WIFI. NOTE: When you keep your current phone (in Japan) you might want to get a cheap international texting plan, so you can still text people in America, and keep your phone #. (Google Fi has a $20/month plan)
